Claims
Every staff member working for Borg & Borg is
required to know and understand the claims process. This is the essence of our industry.
His or Her training includes claims reporting, proper follow-up procedures, policy
coverage, limits and conditions, settlement practices, legal issues, and subrogation.
Every employee has served some time in the claims unit before moving on to other job
responsibilities.
The Account Executive as well as the Account Manager also has the
responsibility of being involved in claim management. While actual report and processing
duties lie with the Claims Department, there is consistent input with all persons involved
with a specific account, assuring maximum expertise and experience.
Your claim representative is specifically trained to handle all facets
of the claim, with careful attention being paid to prompt, expedient service.
Where our office deems it more effective, the subcontracting and use of
independent adjusters will be utilized. Our office maintains a list of competent
professionals with whom we have previously worked. This also includes the use of highly
qualified T P A's. This sharing of information and experience benefits you, our client.
To insure that subrogation of physical damage claims is achieved 'm a
timely manner, daily follow-up is a nominal function of our Claims Department. We have
embarked on many physical damage programs in the past, working with repair shops, salvage
operations and other carriers in collecting dollars for damage caused by third parties.
While we have the capability of generating loss runs from our in-house automation system,
our choice is to secure such runs directly from the Insurance carriers. With today's
automation, they are able to provide them on just as timely a basis. In most cases, they
are even more up-to-date with respect to loss reserves.Everyone agrees that the faster a
claimant is contacted, the more likely litigation can be minimized and/or avoided.
Carriers today prefer that claim be submitted in as timely a manner as possible. We are
available to receive initial reports directly from you, your driver, field supervisor or
whomever you have designated to report the initial information to us,
Catastrophic losses require special handling. In a catastrophe, there
are often special problems which must be addressed, i.e.: the immediate assignment of the
loss to an adjuster; the avoidance of bad publicity; proper damage controls; media
concerns; communication with authorities and officials; and most of all the avoidance of
miscommunication and misinformation.

Loss Control
All carriers that we represent have Loss Engineering Departments. While
all of our carriers do a fine job some carriers have reputations that surpass other
carriers. All in all everyone is capable of providing superlative loss engineering
services.
A partial list of topics we are able to address is:
DRIVERS - Since your driver is an integral part of your operation and is
responsible for the majority of the claims, this is the area in which most time should be
spent. Areas of interest would include:
Driver Selection - driver qualifications, etc.
Driver Training - safety meetings, etc.
Driver Supervision - road observations, etc.
Driver Recognition - good driver awards, etc.
Driver Discipline - reprimand, suspension, termination, etc.
ACCIDENT ANALYSIS - A review of accidents using different variables such
as Type of Claim, Day of Week, Driver, help point out specific areas that need attention.
LOSS DOLLAR ANALYSIS - A breakdown of losses into dollar amounts, helps
us determine
number of claim dollars at various loss levels. This helps in establishing what level of
retention can be handled.
VEHICLE MAINTENANCE - While very few claims are a result of mechanical
failure, vehicles still need to be in good operating condition. Daily logs and P.M.
records need be kept in place, to aid in vehicle maintenance verification as well as
claims defense.
SAFETY MATERIAL - Access is maintained to various other means of loss
prevention material such as National Safety Council tapes, VCR tapes specifically prepared
for your Industry, printed literature,etc.
